Every year the Saltash Regatta Committee raises funds so they can arrange to have 27 tonnes of Padstow sand delivered to a small beach by Ashtorre Rock in Saltash as part of the annual Regatta waterside event. It has become a tradition and stays there for the summer holidays, providing enjoyment for local children during the holidays, until it is eventually washed away. This year’s Regatta was cancelled due to Covid-19 and the slip looked as if it would remain empty. The Regatta Committee though had other ideas. Karen Lilley, Chair of the Committee, encouraged by local Mayor, Gloria Challen, set up a Go Fund Me page to raise money for the venture. Amazingly, the target was reached – and exceeded – within a week of going live. CBL Saltash have always helped the Committee with the sand and were delighted to do the same again this year. As their donation to the event, they sent a digger driven by CBL’s Adam Harvey to spread the sand and make a mini beach for the children’s enjoyment.
